Setup Guide
Get streaming in about 5 minutes.
Griffin Stream has two free pieces: the app on your phone or tablet, and a Windows server that runs on the PC you want to control. You pair them once, then it’s a single tap to reconnect from then on.
What you’ll need
- An Android phone or tablet.
- A Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) PC.
- Both on the same network for first pairing (remote access can be set up later).
1. Install the app
Griffin Stream is coming soon to Google Play for your phone or tablet. You can set up the Windows server now so you're ready the moment the app lands.
2. Download & run the Windows server
On your PC, download the server from the download page and run GriffinStreamServer-Setup.exe. Launch Griffin Stream Server after it installs — it opens a small window showing a pairing PIN and your PC’s local IP address.
3. First launch on Windows (SmartScreen)
Because the app is new and not yet code-signed, Windows may show a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen. This is expected while the app builds reputation — click More info, then Run anyway. The server is open and safe to run on your own PC.
4. Pair once
- Open the app and enter your PC’s IP address (shown in the server window). The port is 8888 by default.
- Tap Connect. The first time, the app will ask for the pairing PIN.
- Type the PIN shown in the server window and confirm. Your device is now paired and the stream starts.
5. Reconnect & Wake-on-LAN
Next time, just tap your saved PC to reconnect. If your PC is asleep, add its MAC address in the app and use Wake PC to power it on over the network before connecting.
6. Connecting from outside your home (optional)
Pairing on the same Wi-Fi is easiest. To connect while away, forward TCP port 8888 on your router to your PC, or use a tunneling tool, then connect to your public address. Your traffic always goes directly to your own PC — there is no relay or cloud middleman.
7. Free vs Pro
Griffin Stream is free, with an optional one-time Pro upgrade — no subscription, ever.
- Free: full mouse, keyboard & gamepad control; up to 1080p at 60fps (H.264); Auto, Performance & Balanced quality presets; Wake-on-LAN; and multiple paired PCs.
- Pro (one-time unlock): 90/120fps, 1440p & native resolution, HEVC 10-bit for less banding, maximum bitrate, the Quality & Max presets, the full Advanced panel, and premium cursor colors.
You can upgrade any time from Settings → About → See Pro features.
8. Manage or unpair devices
In the app, remove a saved PC from the connection list to forget it. On the PC, run the server with the tray icon (right-click → Paired devices) to review or remove paired devices at any time.
Troubleshooting
- Can’t connect: confirm the server is running, both devices are on the same network, and Windows Firewall allows Griffin Stream (the installer adds a rule).
- “Server identity changed”: if you reinstalled the server, remove the PC in the app and pair again.
- Wrong PIN: a fresh PIN is generated each time the server starts — use the one currently shown in the server window.
